How To play blackjack

Playing Blackjack online has many advantages as opposed to playing in a Brick and Mortar Casino. The most important advantage is that you are able to lower the house edge by using one simple method, “DEPOSIT BONUSES”.  Every online casino will give you free money for signing up a new account with their site.  You are never offered this in a Brick and Mortar Casino.  Take full advantage of these bonuses, if you don’t you are passing up free money.  By taking these bonuses in a game like Blackjack the casino no longer has the edge, you are now at a slight edge over the casino.  Most online casinos also offer a Comp program the more you play the more they give you, anything from money, to merchandise, to free chips to play in their casino.

Blackjack is the most popular card game in the casino and it also offers some of the best odds in the house. The object of blackjack is to obtain a higher total than the dealer without going over 21.  If you, the player, go over 21 you “bust”, at that point it does not matter what the dealer does, you have already lost your bet.  Blackjack is a game where in any given situation there is a correct mathematical play to give you the best chance at winning.  There are “cheat sheets” that have been created to advise you on what to do in every situation. It has been mathematically calculated that if you follow these guidelines you will win more money over a long period of time.

Card Values
Each card represents a certain number of points that will be added together to give you your total.  An Ace can be used for either a 1 or 11. The numbers 2-9 are equal to the number on the card and Tens, Jacks, Queens, and Kings are all worth 10 points.

Dealing The Cards
There may be other players sitting at your table, but you are not playing against them, you are playing just against the dealer. The dealer starts left to right giving every player a card face up and then gives them self a card face down.  The dealer then goes left to right again giving every player another card face up, finally the dealer gets the last card face up.  Now the action is on the player, you can choose to “hit”(take a card) or you can choose to “stand”(not take another card).  You can take as many “hits” as you want but once you “stand” you are your turn is over.  After all of the players have made their decisions the dealer will then finish their hand.  The casino has rules the dealer must follow. The most common rule is the dealer must stand on all 17’s or above, if the dealer’s two cards equal 17 or more that is their final total.  If the first two cards are less than 17 they must hit until they have at least 17.

A blackjack means the first two cards you receive total 21, it will be an Ace plus a 10,J,Q, or K.  If you get a blackjack, most casinos now pay 3:2, meaning if you bet $10 you would win your $10 bet back plus an additional $15.  In a normal hand without a blackjack the payouts are 1:1, if you place a $10 bet and win the hand you get your $10 bet back plus and additional $10.  If the dealer beats you, the $10 bet is lost.  If there are any ties between you and the dealer it is a “push” and you get your money back.

Splitting Pairs
If the first two cards you are dealt are a pair you have the option to split them, this means you will separate the two cards, put a second bet down, the same amount as your original bet, and you will now be playing two hands. Every casino has different rules, some casinos will allow you to re-split if you get another pair on top of these.  You don’t split all pairs, view the “cheat sheet” to know when to split each pair.

Doubling Down
One of the edges the player has is the doubling down option.  If you are in an advantageous situation you have the option to double your bet and take 1 single card.  You typically do this when you have a total of 10 or 11 and the dealer has a 6,7,8, or 9 showing.  Every situation is different, once again check the cheat sheet to know what to do in every instance.

Soft and Hard
You will hear the terms “Soft” and “Hard” while playing Blackjack, these represent hands with Aces in them.  If you have (Ace,6) this can equal either 7 or 17.  It is always assumed the Ace will represent the total that makes your hand highest, without going over 21.  The hand is considered soft if the Ace can still be used as a 1 or 11, as in the previous example.  Now let’s say you hit that (A,6) and get a (10) you now have a total of  17.  But this is a “Hard” 17 because you can only count that ace as a 1 if you count it as an 11 you would bust.

How to win at Blackjack
If playing online, the first thing you have to do is take advantage of the Sign Up Bonus Offers, most casinos match at least 100% of what your first deposit is. So if you deposit $1,000 you will get $1,000 extra to play with. You just can’t beat that, this offers a huge advantage, as to playing in a live casino.  The next thing you need to do is print off a Blackjack Cheat Sheet.  When you start playing follow the directions on the card, it will tell you what to do in every situation.  If you do these two things, the casino is no longer the favorite, YOU ARE!!
